Everyone I try seems to scan find the faults and then refuse to clean them unless you pay up. My AVG free anti virus is great but I don't seem to be able to find a free spyware remover

You can get free spyware remover from AVG also Rootkit remover as well.
AVG anti virus free is only good at viruses but not other malwares such as spywares. Better add an antispyware. First try spywaredoctor free edition. update it then scan. Then try installing threatfire free and spywareblaster.
Search for Ad-Aware 2007, download and install it. Check for definition updates after installation and then run a system scan. Be sure to check for updates weekly and always before a scan.

Spybot Search %26 Destroy is free. There is also a free version of Ad-aware.
I advocate the Bobbie Twins of anti-malware: Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot S%26D.

You first day remove the spyware, second day you will get infected again.
I know Sly_Old_Mole now has reservations about this but I still feel that ''Superantispyware'' is one of the best around.
