Windows Explorer keeps crashing when I delete files or try to rename them. Actually the window just freezes. Oddly though, I can extract zipped folders and right click to scan with Norton. I've run AdAware, Spybot, and Norton Anti-Virus on Safe Mode (since they would crash too) with no change. I even downloaded ShellExView to check shells, but when I disabled them there was still no change. I don't know what else to do. I have not added any new programs although I suspect it may be a Windows Update I did around the time it all went wrong, and I don't know how to go back to before the update. Thanks.

Some things to try...
1) Disable all startup programs to check if the problem is software conflict.
-Click on the pearl (start button) in the search text box, type " msconfig " and hit enter...when the msconfig box opens click the startup tab, and hit disable all and restart...if it restarts and you no longer have the problem then it's obviously some sort of software conflict.
-If it no longer happens then relaunch msconfig and activate programs one by one and restart..this way you can narrow down which programs are causing the conflict.
2) Create a new user profile and see if it happens while logged into the other user.
3) Boot into safemode by tapping f8 (f8 is the hot key for most computers) while your BIOS screen is being shown (before the Windows logo screen on startup).
-If the problem happens in safe mode and with all startup programs disabled then it could be a faulty install of Windows. I would at this point suggest an OS reinstall.
------One side tip...try all of this with nothing plugged into your computer except the bare minimum for it to work.

I don't have that problem, but I find www.vistaforums.com is generally pretty helpful with issues like this.
